There are no words that can describe the game versus Liverpool Schools that took place at Bilbrook Juniors FC on 19th June 2021. The commitment, effort and sheer brilliance of every single Wolverhampton player will live in the memory for an extremely long time.
We took the lead when Ricky beat the goalkeeper (and an attempted foul from the ‘keeper) to make it 1-0. We were 2-0 up and in dreamland when Ricky again was played in by the fantastic Ethan. The ball was held up on the line and Elliot bundled it in the goal.
Liverpool came back into it and scored just before half time and they held the belief they could go and win the game. 2-1. HT.
The time seemed to be standing still and the seconds ticked by. Both teams had excellent opportunities to score again and the woodwork was rattled several times. Liverpool bundled in an equaliser with five minutes to go to send the visiting fans into raptures and extra time looked likely, with the Wolves boys having given everything.
There was to be one more chance. Another great corner was put across into the box. Prem managed to recycle the ball and get it back into the danger area and Aaron looped a header over the stranded Liverpool goalkeeper. 3-2.
All that was needed was to defend a long ball into the box and the victory was ours. An absolutely incredible season with an incredible bunch of boys. It has been a pleasure to know them! A National Final for the first time in 90 years for any Wolverhampton team. There are no words that can describe this team.
