This was expected to be a close contest between two teams who had made a strong start to the season with two wins and two clean sheets and so it proved. Wolverhampton certainly looked the stronger in the first half and looked extremely dangerous by dominating the ball and getting into some great forward positions but unfortunately the final pass seemed to elude us at the crucial moment until Albaji made the breakthrough with a fantastic goal. It was a wonderful individual effort and a great reward for an excellent mornings work and he deservedly won the player of the match award because apart from the strike he showed an excellent range of passing, great skill and the ability to make key interceptions throughout the game.
If only we could have consolidated our lead for even five or ten minutes we would surely have gone on to win but our opponents struck back almost immediately as we found ourselves short at the back following a counter and Sutton were firmly back in the game. The second half remained competitive, and Sutton did have opportunities of their own, but Wolverhampton created the greater chances and had numerous shots on target without getting that elusive goal. We were particularly dangerous when we pressed high, causing Sutton all sorts of problems as they tried to play through their defence but in the end we were left with a feeling of what might have been. Special mention to Charlie, who played so well in midfield.
Squad: Jakson Ashley, Ollie Harris, Uthman Mohammed, Nihaal Jabbal, Charlie Stone, Albaji Bah Lucas Smith, Irorun Adegbite, Corban Smith, Fabian Dell.
