A mixed set of results but overall this was another enjoyable evening of exciting football and there were some promising performances from the Wolverhampton u11 girls. We began the opening game against East Birmingham with Layla scoring within seconds of the kick off and we never looked back, going on to achieve a comprehensive 4-0 victory. Layla was also instrumental in our second goal, as she saw her cross from a corner deflected for an own goal, and she certainly made no mistake with our third goal as she smashed the ball into the net after making a timely interception.Clara then got on to the scoresheet herself by hitting a great shot that went in at the far post.
Buoyed by her goal Clara started the next game against South Staffs like a girl possessed and twice came close to giving us the lead before Layla beat her defender and set up Rosie who scored with a great finish.Layla and Rosie then had further attempts on goal that were well saved before South Staffs got a goal back following hesitancy in the Wolverhampton defence. .
Not to be denied, however, Meg's long range winner deceived everyone and after our second win we began the third game against North Shropshire full of confidence.Despite good efforts from Rosie and Layla in particular, we lost 1-0 in a closely contested game though and whilst North Shropshire played well nothing seemed to go our way.
The 2-0 victory over Walsall put us back on track and once Rosie had opened the scoring from close range the result was never in doubt.Wolverhampton's second goal was very well worked and following great play in midfield Rosie got the ball out to Clara and her cross shot was turned in at the far post by Elyssia. It would have been nice to end the evening with a win but it was not to be. Kings Norton netting a late winner despite Layla giving us the lead after great work on the right by Issy.
Squad: Rosie Smith, Layla Dolman. Alarna Samuels, Megan Winwood, Issy, Clara, Aiofe, Olivia, Elyssia, Amber, Shayla.
