Many thanks to Keyford Eagles Football Club for hosting our Champions Cup game this weekend. The first 15 minutes of the game were relatively even with Liverpool just creating a couple of half chances, and we had even hit the post, before the visitors took advantage of a bouncing ball to take the lead.A few minutes later they made it 2-0 with a good finish and facing a two goal deficit at the start of the second half we certainly had a mountain to climb.Unfortunately Liverpool exercised even more control of the ball after the break and within five minutes they had made the score 3-0 and the match was effectively over as a contest. We could have buckled, but the girls held firm and restricted our opponents to very few clear cut chances until they broke and scored again a few minutes from the end.
Squad :Poppy Pitt, Evie Holmes, Eesha Sidhu, Freya Rickuss,Georgia Hambrook, Jess Pullan,
Grace Steadman, Leja Lopetaityte, Imogen Jones, Kiran Bhella, Lshae Thomas, Samaira Paul.
It was disappointing of course to complete our group fixtures with a 4-0 defeat but losing to such quality opposition is certainly no disgrace and the girls should be proud of their efforts this season. We have now achieved third place in a very competitive section with two wins and six points from our four matches and we can now look forward to the second stage of the ESFA competition after Christmas which will be played using a knock-out format.
