Both teams tried to play football from the start and there were some very good performances from both teams in an exciting encounter. Wolverhampton continued with their policy of building from the back but ironically we were more successful when the lads moved the ball forward quickly because this enabled Corban and Lucas to utilize their great pace and we went close to taking an early lead when Corban darted through only to put his shot over the bar. Soon afterwards Aarav hit the post but Aston had their fair share of attacks too and Wolverhampton were fortunate to have Jakson in such great form in goal and the game remained goalless at the break. Both teams were determined to get in front in order to get a foothold in such a tight contest and it was Wolverhampton who had the first chance of the second half. Alhaji going through only to see his his powerful shot well saved by the Aston keeper within a minute of the kick off.
The breakthrough came through almost immediately, however, and Aarav found some space on the left before driving the ball home with his left foot giving the keeper no time to react.Lucas also saw a shot well saved but we were made to pay for our inability to drive home our advantage and Aston were eventually able to get the ball past the resolute Jakson and the match was once again in the balance. The momentum had begun to swing in our opponents favour prior to this goal, and Jakson had certainly had plenty to do throughout the game, but it was Wolverhampton who grabbed the lead for the second time when Aaraf's superb header hit the back of the net. The touch was sublime but great credit must also go to Lucas because his delivery of the corner kick was perfection. Surely we were now on our way to victory but Aston broke away to equalise virtually from the kick off and with no further scoring we had to settle for a 2-2 draw. In truth it was probably a fair result but this was certainly a game that we could, and should, have won!
