December 1st 2024. u14 Girls play well despite the final result.

Despite a dominant all round performance, the final result wasn’t reflective of the effort that the girls put in throughout and we showed real determination from the kick off. Dhemi was clearly getting the better of the fullbacks and our opponents were not able to deal with her pace to such an extent in the early stages that it seemed only a matter of time before we took the lead.Cross after cross came into the Sheffield box but we were not able to get on the end of any of them and despite dominating possession, and creating chance after chance, the end product was all too often lacking and not for the first time this season we were made to pay for wasted chances. It was bad enough that Sheffield went and scored a goal out of nothing, as we failed to react after Kornelia had made a good safe, but within ten minutes we found ourselves conceding yet again.Despite the disappointing score line the match was far from over, however, but we would certainly need to show our powers of recovery for the third time this season if we were to recover from yet another two goal deficit. In fact it could have been 3-0 but for some simply outstanding goalkeeping and Sheffield were defied by one of the greatest saves we’ve ever seen. Kornelia drawing huge applause from both sets of players as she somehow got to an effort destined for the top corner even though it looked physically impossible to reach it.

To be fair our first half performance had been good and we started brightly after the break by

dominating possession. Great play between Xienna and Harmani down the left created a great opportunity but Sheffield's keeper pulled out a fantastic save to deny us once again and once our opponents had converted a free kick from around 20 yards it was clear that our fightback was at an end. At least we could not be faulted on this occasion as it was so beautfully struck that you just had to step back and admire it!  It isn't in our nature to give up though and a glimmer of hope appeared 10 minutes from time when Harmani scored a deserved goal. It proved to be too little too late and Sheffield saw the game out for the win but they were perhaps fortunate to catch us on an off days as far as finishing is concerned.
