This was the final game for the under 10s before Christmas and it was reduced to 8-a-side due to the late withdrawal of players. Nevertheless we were the better team on the day and dominated the match from the kick off. Wolverhampton started well and indeed, with Ollie and Charlie winning everthing which came their way, we got even better as the game wore on. Jakson was largely a spectator and it was no surprise when we took the lead midway through the first half. It came when Fabian controlled a great right wing corner from Lucas with his back to goal, and turned before finding the top corner of the net with an impressive left foot finish. A few minutes later it appeared that we had doubled our lead when a lovely through ball from man of the match Albaji found Fabian once again, and he seemed to have scored a perfectly good goal only to see it ruled out by a late, and very contentious, offside decision.
Despite the goal being chalked off we were playing so well that it seemed inevitable that further goals would follow in the second half and everything seemed to be going perfectly to plan before we gave our opponents a route back into the game which they did no deserve.Perhaps there was a degree of complacency creeping in and careless play at the back caused us to lose the ball and Erdington & Saltley converted the resulting penalty after a rash rackle in the box. This turned the game completely on its head and though it was a surprise when the Birmingham lads broke away to ultimately snatch the winner the margin of defeat could have been even more if Jakson had not made two excellent saves during this period. Our lads pushed on in the final 10 minutes with Albaji, Lucas, Thai and Corban doing all they could to create further chances but it proved to be just one of those days and Wolves could not find a much deserved equaliser.Lessons to be learned!
