April 20th 2024. U11 Boys' continue their great run of form.

Updated: Apr 24

Wolverhampton started brightly against North Shropshire in this Burton Shield encounter but it took a while for us to find the net before Rory eventually opened the scoring after an excellent through ball from Evan. The second goal followed great defensive work from Tailon who turned defence into attack by putting a probing cross into the box which resulted in Rory emerging from a collision with the Shropshire keeper to turn the ball into the net to increase our advantage. With a 2-0 lead we should have been coasting but our opponents refused to lie down and Armandas in the Wolverhampton goal was called upon to make a great save before finally being beaten by a well taken shot from the edge of the box.

The Wolverhampton lads refused to panic, however, and we went close several times as a result of Armandas' long clearances, before Evan finished from close range following one of Rory's trademark long runs. Another long ball out of defence, this time from Kai, further extended our lead when Rory powered home our fourth before North Shropshire once again reduced the arrears with a shot that went in off the crossbar to complete the first half scoring.

Even though they were losing 4-2 at the break North Shropshire were still techically in the game but if anything, we were even more dominant in the second half and the lads went on to score four more goals without reply. Charlie created the first of these by closing down a defender in his own goal area enabling the ball to fall to Joel who made no mistake.A long range effort from Rory made it 6-2, and then he dribbled through to side foot his fifth, and our seventh goal, into the corner of the net before Charlie completed the scoring from the penalty spot. This was a fitting reward for the player's lively second half performance and after being tripped in the area after a great run he dusted himself down before unleashing a powerful shot which their keeper had no hope of saving. A tremendous 8-2 victory for an impressive Wolverhampton team which sets us up nicely for our next match which will be a Burton Shield decider against South Birmingham.

Team: Armandas Jolke, Kai Cole, Rory Butler, Theo Wood, Nico Dunstan Grey, Mason Dhillon, Tailon Simpson Taylor, Claudiu Flore, Lucas Durnall, Charlie Durnall, Joel Badu, Evan Lawrence.
