May 3rd 2024. Penalties haunt the Primary Girls team yet again.

Updated: May 5

The A team won every group game despite persistent rain and with Millie scoring 13 of our 21 goals as we notched up six successive victories everything was looking rosy as we comfortably reached the final despite the awful weather conditions.Millie got the ball rolling with the only goal in a 1-0 win over South Staffs and after a 3-2 victory over Erdington with Ruby and Avaani also on target we had emerged as the team to beat. Navaeh scored along with Millie and Avaani who both scored hat tricks in the 7-0 victory over Walsall and Avaani and Millie also combined as we then won 2-1 against Aston. After Millie's double had overcome our closest rivals Sutton Coldfield by a 2-1 margin we then ended the group fixtures with a 5-2 demolition of North Shropshire (Millie 4 and Navaeh)

On to the final which was played at the end of the tournament between the two league winners, and to their credit Sutton Coldfield 's B team were able to nullify our best goal threat in a game of very few chances and not for the first team this season our fortunes would once again rest on the penalty spot. The early penalties were expertly executed by players on both sides but ultimately we blinked first and Sutton eventually won 5-4 in sudden death. The girls then went forward to receive their runners up medals from organiser Matt Jones but they deserved so much more.
