September 29th 2023. U12's win 3-2 at St.Helens

Updated: Dec 20, 2023

The opening ESFA Champions Cup saw us travel to Knowsley St Helens and the girls came into the game with little experience of 9-a-side but with a huge amount of enthusiasm to produce the kind of football that the coaches know they are capable of. We started on the front foot and created a couple of good chances before Jess played a through ball to Lshae who powered a shot past the keeper after just seven minutes. The quality of both sides on the ball was clear to see and some good defending and goalkeeping by both teams kept the score at 1-0 until the 20th minute when the ball fell kindly to a St Helens player who struck a superb effort from 20 yards that went in off the underside of the crossbar to tie the half time score at 1-1.

The second half was an excellent advert for girls football, with players from both sides showing determination and technical ability that made it a great game to watch and within five minutes of the resumption Lshae once again latched on to a through ball from Kiran to restore our lead.

Excellent defending from Evie and Grace prevented a home fightback and with 7 minutes to go, good play down the left hand side between Freya and Georgia resulted in a Wolverhampton corner from which Lshae put us 3-1 up. Knowsley St Helens pulled a goal back with a minute to go but we were able to hold on for a deserved 3-2 victory. A massive thanks to all the parents for getting the girls to the game, and we look forward to the Barnsley game in two week's time.
