September 14th 2024. A tough start for the new u11 Boys team.

Updated: Sep 21

The new look Wolverhampton schools u11 Boys team opened the new season with a friendly against a strong Sutton Coldfield outfit and started extremely well by grabbing the lead after just ten minutes. The move began deep in our own half and ended with Zach heading home after Tion's pin point cross had opened up the opposition defence. At this stage our lads were certainly in the ascendancy and it seemed only a matter of time before we extended our lead as Zach, Caiden and Arraf all went agonisingly close on several occasions. Those missed chances soon came back to haunt us ,however, and Sutton pounced on two errors to turn the match on its head and a third goal just before the break seemed to completely take the wind out of our sails.

It was always intended to make changes at half time in order to give all the lads an opportunity to show what they could do but unfortunately this did little to help cohesion as our players were having to get used to a new formation at the same time as we were having to chase the game. At times we gave the ball away far too cheaply and in our haste to create opportunities we made poor decisions which were heavily punished and after conceding four goals in the space of 15 minutes we had completely lost all sense of direction. Fortunately a short injury break enabled us to have a brief chat with the players and we ended the game in a more positive fashion and created a number of chances. One was taken brilliantly by D'Arcy and whilst Sutton Coldfield scored once more themselves we had least made a fight of it in the closing stages. Not the result we wanted ,or expected, and an eye-opening experience for those players who have not played at this standard before. Much still to learn about not giving the ball away easily,  decision making and awareness but its still early days!.

Squad :Toby, kian,  Deshayne, Arraf,   Carter,  Ishmail,  Tion,  Zach,  Caiden, Gabriel, Harry, Ben, Zavier, D'Arcy, Kane.
