November 10th 2023. Great win for the U13 Girls in Sheffield.

Updated: Nov 13, 2023

The U13 Girls' team started slowly before they settled and were indebted to Kornelia for keeping them in the game when she made an outstanding save to her bottom right. Both defences stood stern but Sheffield were unlucky to be denied a penalty, after good work in the box, before we eventually took the lead. Dhemi picked up the ball and went on an incredible run, taking full advatage of her tremendous pace, before drilling a pin point cross along the 6 yard box for Carly to tap in at the back post.We came out in the second half determined to build on that precious lead and picked up the pace before Dhemi received the ball and once again ran the defenders ragged before being fouled in the box by two Sheffield players. Our captain, Tilly, stepped up and struck the the penalty confidently into the bottom right corner of the net to put us 2-0 up with 20 minutes left to play.

The last 20 minutes were far from comfortable but we survived numerous pressure situations and multiple shots, with Kornelia constantly called into action.Nevertheless she handled superbly and took everything in her stride, dominating her area and even coming out to claim several Sheffield corners. Sheffield did hit the post near the end, with a whipped free kick, but our girls managed to see out the game brilliantly! Player of the match was Kornelia for her superb goalkeeping display which drew applause from the parents on more than one occasion.

Squad:

Kornelia Kruczynska, Scarlett Lewis, Esme Shields, Erin Leo, Harmani Gill, Carly Johnson, Tilly Mae Oakes, Lexi Ruby, Dhemi Lee Simpson, Caitlin Gregg, Savannah Lal, Remi McKetty.
